In this edition of the SCCA Sacramento Chapter Drivers’ spotlight, new father, Taylor Felts has volunteered to share some information about himself.
You may recognize Taylor as he is racing his 1994 Miata or 2011 Subaru WRX. Of those cars, the Subaru is a back-up, but his Miata is his favorite, so far. Taylor is a veteran AutoXer, with 9 years of racing total, but only 5 years with the Sac Chapter. He was first introduced to the sport when he started a university car club in college with some friends. Some of those friends introduced him to track days and AutoX. They would host joint events that included meets, autocross, track days and cruises. This took place in Oklahoma, with the Z club and other OKC metro area car clubs.
He does not have any superstitions, but his rituals include helping to get his wife moving to get there on time. You may recognize her out there with their adorable corgi’s. Taylor also stated if he were to be a breed of dog, it would be a Labrador.
Taylor is a fan of hardcore and metalcore genres of music. That helps him to get pumped up for the race day. Some of his selected favorites include Hollow Front, Wage War, Gideon, The Ghose Inside and the like.
A remarkably interesting hobby of his is his skill for solving puzzles. Taylor divulged that he could solve Sudoku and Rubik’s Cubes puzzles, which is something that he would classify as a silly talent. He also collects them. He has the 2×2, 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5. (That is quite an impressive skill). Other hobbies include mechanics and home improvement projects.
He has an extremely specific dream car, which sounds beautiful. That is a 991 GT3, Smurf blue or dark purple body, with yellow calipers seat belts and cross stitching, with the body color matching the roll bar with silver wheels.
A lovely dinner he would choose to have with one person would be his granny.
Taylor also divulged that he believes that King Kong would win in a race, because he has low mobility. In the 9 years of his AutoX career, he is the proudest of the progression he has made through racing and track days, and with that comes quite a bit of solid friendships. The AutoX , car and track community are where most of his friendships have come from.
During race weekends, he enjoys watching the AS and SSR classes the most. To any new members or new AutoXers, the bit of advice he would give is to just have fun and ask for ride alongs.
A superpower Taylor would choose is the ability to teleport. He would use that superpower to be able to travel back home to Oklahoma and back. He did offer some insight into what everyone should try once and that is everything. You will never know if you like it or don’t like it, until you try it.
His favorite travel destination so far, has been Destin Florida, with his dream travel destination being Germany.
The AutoX memory that stands out the most to Taylor, is when he was in college. They would rent out the Sheriff’s training facility which was in the shape of a pistol with a large skid pad in the middle, which had some outlining roads. The group would use cones to make the course more technical and slower. This would allow them to get creative with the skid pad portion. This gave them a fun mix of AutoX and a track day experience. They would run heats like on track days, where you could get the higher speed portions and corners and allowed them to use the technical aspects of AutoX on the skid pad and the surprise slaloms at the bus stops.
An exceptionally large congratulations to you and your growing family. Thank you as well, for volunteering this information to share with the new and current members of the Sac SCCA Chapter.

Taylor is always a friendly supportive guy that enjoys the sport and is there to help if needed too. Another one of these guys with a red first gen Miata and a Subaru. Both are great autocross cars and fairly inexpensive and durable too. Unfortunately, he got hurt at work and I hope that you are recovering well and we get to see you again before the end of the season. You are really missing out on some of the hottest race weekends you know.
