Driver’s Spotlight – Andrew Barrious

Driver’s Spotlight – Andrew Barrious

In this edition of the SCCA Sacramento Chapter Drivers’ spotlight, we are highlighting Andrew Barrious. You may be familiar with his 2005 Pontiac GTO. Although he has only regularly raced in this car, Ross’s Camaro, which he drove once, is his favorite AutoX car.

A veteran of the sport and an exciting person to watch out on course, he has been participating since 2011. Andrew was first introduced to this sport when he used to race RC cars indoors at the Stockton Fairgrounds and in between runs, he would come out and watch SAC SCCA run out there.

One race superstition he has on race weekends, is to show up early so he is not feeling rushed. If he is late, nothing goes well for him. There is no particular genre of music he listens to, to get himself pumped up, but one apprehensive hobby of his while not racing, is yard work. If Andrew were to bet against Godzilla or King Kong in a race, he votes for King Kong to win, because Godzilla has too small arms to go fast.

His dream car is a brand-new Vivid orange metallic 1SS 1LE Camaro. Maybe, he could give John Candy a ride along, as John Candy is the one, he would enjoy having a tasty dinner with. One of his silly talents he would like to share, is that he often makes up new lyrics to songs that only he finds funny. He has a deep love for his dog, because he is “the best dog ever”, so that is the mixed breed of dog, he would be.

A proud racing accomplishment of Andrew’s is he was 21st in the nation in 1/12th RC car racing. Being a new father, he does have one thing people would be surprised to learn and that is “Andrew dry heaves every time he changes his daughter’s poop diapers, all the while, his wife is videoing him while laughing”.

The cars that he enjoys watching on race weekends are the Micro Sprints at Delta Speedway. One bit of advice he would offer to a new member of this club and sport, is if you have a question, ask. Everyone is more than happy to help. With that, he thinks that everyone should step out of their comfort zone and try once.

If Andrew could have any superpower, it would hands down be Jedi Powers.

A favorite memory of an AutoX weekend, was not a specific event, but there was one season that his closest competitor and him, were within a few hundredths every run. That makes for some very fun and challenging competition.

His favorite travel destinations are Monterey and Carmel. Andrew does have a dream travel destination, which is going to a NASCAR Cup Bristol night race, but not the dirt one.

Thank you to Andrew Barrious for sharing some information about himself with the current and new members of SCCA Sac Chapter.
