Driver’s Spotlight – James Fuhs

Driver’s Spotlight – James Fuhs

In this edition of the SCCA Sacramento Chapter Drivers’ spotlight James Fuhs, has volunteered to share some information about his racing career.

You may recognize James as he is driving the 1965 Mustang Fastback. He started racing in 2014, for his first season in which he was driving in a 2014 Mustang GT, but his favorite ride is his 1965. He was introduced to this sport by a friend of his dad’s, who mentioned that he should try it out.

James does not have any rituals, per se, but he ALWAYS has a Baby Ruth candy bar with him when he races in any vehicle. To get him excited and pumped up for race days, you may hear some 80’s and 90’s big hair rock music playing.

James is an avid car lover, as his hobbies include restoring cars and other forms of racing. He currently owns his dream car, which is the 1965 Fastback.

If he could have dinner with one person, it would either be Steve McQueen or Carroll Shelby.

Since James is a veteran in this sport, he has been truly fortunate in the category of racing accomplishments. These include, 2014 F-Stock championship winner, 2017 Cam-T champion and the 2018 Cam-T champion. Something that is surprising to learn about him is that he also participates in off-road racing since the late 90’s and currently drives several races a year for an off-road race team.

Although he does not name one specific talent one would consider silly, he thinks that any talent he has is silly. James also thinks that King Kong would win in a race, because Godzilla’s tail would slow him down. If he was a dog, the breed he would be is a Greyhound, because well, what else… they are built for SPEED!

Going along with his thirst for speed, the cars that he most enjoys watching are any car being driven fast. James would love the superpower to be invisible and thinks that everyone should try everything once.

The advice that he would give to any new person to this sport, or new to the SCCA club, is to ask questions. Be willing to learn from those around you. This is excellent advice, because even though
James has been racing since 2014, he still learns something new at every race.

Being a doting father, a memory that stands out to him is when he had both his daughter’s getting rides on the track from fellow racers. The smiles on their faces when they got out were infectious.

A dream travel destination is his would be the Pyramids of Egypt, while his favorite travel destination is Hawaii.

Thank you to James Fuhs for sharing this information with the new and current members of the Sacramento SCCA Chapter.
